FADA is a new network set up by volunteers in June 2006, mostly from Co Kildare. The group are preparing communities for peak oil by focusing on the localisation of the economy. The name FADA comes from the Irish phrase Fuinneamh An Dúchais Againn. The group was formed after the Energy Forum, an event discussing peak oil organised in April 2006 by the Newbridge Integral Philosophy Group.
FADA’s objective is to help create and maintain a vibrant, diverse, secure and sustainable community by fostering ingenuity through local projects and positive action. As a start, FADA Newbridge has been set up as a pilot branch in Newbridge to work towards the group’s objectives in the local area. It is envisaged that similar groups will be set up in other parts of Co Kildare and will be able to utilise the experience gained from FADA Newbridge.
FADA have held an Energy Fair in Newbridge which was designed to promote awareness in the local community of alternative and sustainable domestic heating systems and energy conservation. The fair was well attended, and informative.
Other projects FADA are currently engaged in are the establishment of a community garden in the Newbridge area - with one now set up at the back of the Town Hall on Main Street.
