White Flag for Leisure Facilities

Newbridge Sports & Leisure Centre

Newbridge Sports & Leisure Centre located on Station Road is the only local leisure facility which has been awarded the White Flag. The Sports & Leisure Centre is operated by Kildare County Council.

The Institute of Leisure and Amenity Management (ILAM) and An Taisce organise the White Flag Award, whereby sports halls, fitness studios, health suites, spas, gyms, and swimming pools can be awarded the White Flag as proof of their excellence under a number of headings.

The award is the only comprehensive quality award for Leisure Facilities in Ireland, and Newbridge Sports & Leisure Centre has been awarded the White Flag for six years in succession. This award recognises high standards of excellence in health and leisure facilities and is endorsed by Fáilte Ireland and the Irish Hotels Federation.

Assessment is required prior to being awarded White Flag, and the key criteria are the facility interior, exterior & grounds, staff training and qualifications, disability access and provision, swimming pool hygiene (where applicable), environmental management (waste minimisation, recycling facilities, and energy conservation), and education information. The facility must have an effective cleaning programme in place that takes in all aspects of the facility along with an Emergency Action Plan.

As part of the White Flag programme the facility must have adopted “Code of Conduct” for facility users, well defined facility rules, an environment & hygiene statement. They are also required to display a facility map showing locations for first aid, emergency exits, etc

The leisure facility must have safe and easy access, qualified and trained staff, good health & safety procedures in place at all times.

Please note that there are Glass Bottle Recycling Facilities in the Newbridge Sports & Leisure Centre.
