DROICHEAD NUA OR NEWBRIDGE
Your Town - It's easy to make a difference

Upgrading The Park

Park users will have by noticed that construction machinery has moved into the town park. The following work is underway:

  • Replacement of the paths
The paths in the park have deteriorated significantly over the years, and thanks to the availability of funding from Droichead Nua Town Council, Kildare County Council, KELT (County Kildare Leader 11 Company Ltd.), and Newbridge Tidy Towns Association the paths are being replaced and renewed. This work will take approximately two to three weeks, and as a safety precaution some areas of the park will need to be closed off from time to time.

This path replacement project is a very significant investment, and would not have happened without considerable support from both Council Officials and your Town and County Councillor support. We would also like to take this opportunity to acknowlege the assistance and fonding support from KELT.

  • What is being done!
The area from the Whitewater outlet-pipe to the Strand (the fork in the path) a distance of approximately 50 Linear Metres will be replaced with a path approximately 2.50 Metres in width.

The area incorporating the Strand some 695 linear Metres will have a path width of approximately 2.80 metres, this path will follow the current route of the paths.

The most difficult area is the pathway from the Strand to the Kilcullen Road, it is proposed to replace this path section of approximately 265 Linear Metres with a path approximately 2 metres in width.

The current paths will be “excavated” and replaced.

In all some 2500 Square metres of path will be laid (approximately 1 Kilometre in length), improving the paths from their current widths in parts just 18 inches, with other parts non existent in sections.

  • How about some seating?
Some suitable furniture and security measures (to protect users of the park from unwanted attention) will be the next phase of the development of the park we need to address.

  • Security in the Park
The Bye laws are also about to be posted publicly in the park, which will give the Gardaí authority to act, and this will deter some of the unwanted activities currently happening in the park.
